We are happy to introduce two new members of the AIFF community: Sky and Roberta. Sky is our new interim Executive Director, and Roberta joins us as Artistic Director. Please join us in a warm welcome to both.
A San Francisco native, Sky and her family moved to Ashland in 2008 for the excellent schools, vibrant arts scene, and beautiful surroundings. A dedicated nonprofit professional with a passion for mission-driven work, Sky began her career in nonprofits as the School Director at A Place for Kids—an early childhood education center which served abused children. After moving to Ashland, she was hired by the Southern Oregon Humane Society to serve as the Education & Community Outreach Director. Later, she moved on to Britt Festivals—first serving in a development capacity before being promoted to Director of Operations. In her time at Britt, Sky conceptualized and spearheaded the Britt Orchestra at Crater Lake project, bringing dozens of musicians to the rim of the national park for two days of free performances. Sky joined AIFF in September 2021 first as the Director of Development, and was recently asked to serve as Interim Executive Director. Sky is thrilled to be working with AIFF, an organization which adds to the cultural vitality of the Rogue Valley. She is excited to work with the staff, volunteers, and supporters to bring the 2022 April festival back to patrons in- person, better than ever.
Roberta Munroe has programmed and/or managed several top tier film festivals including Sundance, Outfest, Toronto and NewFest. She is thrilled to be joining the AIFF team as Artistic Director.
She has also produced and directed over 40 award-winning short-form and long-form projects independently, or for companies such as Fox Searchlight, AT&T and the United Nations (UNFPA).
Many enjoyed successful festival runs worldwide, (Sundance, Tribeca, SXSW, Venice, and Tokyo Short Film Festival), won many “Best Of” awards, and several enjoyed a theatrical release and television broadcast. More on IMDb.
Ms. Munroe has built an exceptional career working with first time, and emerging directors. She has an exceptional eye for story, casting, post-production and target audiences. As is evidenced by her work at the Sundance Film Festival, where Roberta launched the careers of hundreds of filmmakers including, Aurora Guerrero (OWN’s Queen Sugar), Cary Fukunaga (True Detective, Beast Of No Nation), the Duplass Brothers (Togetherness, Room 104), Tiffany Shlain (The Tribe, Connected, 24Six Life), Seith Mann (The Wire, The Walking Dead, Homeland) and Taika Waititi (Jo Jo Rabbit, Hunt For The Wilderbeast, Thor).
Her current television project, "Detox," is a half hour comedy about toxic & heroic masculinity that stars Marcus Henderson, Chiké Okonkwo, Angel Parker, and Brian Michael Smith. "Detox" was selected for the inaugural 2020 Canadian Creative Acceleration Program, “Searching For The Next Schitt’s Creek” and the Banff Showcase.
Roberta is a champion of great art, and splits her time between Silverlake, Los Angeles and Ashland, Oregon with her rescue dog, Luchador, sipping martinis and tending to an ever evolving garden.
